No doubt that he was a prolific poet and a cult hero of romantic folklore. But his incomplete life made him a paragon of the virtue of bohemian creativity and also of the merits of rebellion which inspired many generations of his admirers. Incidentally, his one-time Guru Fani had also paved the way for a poetic tradition which romanticised tragedy, death and foreboding.
